Fairy Queen : World’s Oldest Working Steam Locomotive still continues to amuse.

The Fairy Queen, also known as the East Indian Railway Nr. 22, is an 1855-built steam locomotive, restored by Loco Works Perambur, Chennai in 1997 and housed at the Rewari Railway Heritage Museum. It occasionally runs between New Delhi and Alwar.In 1998 it was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s oldest steam locomotive in regular service. The Fairy Queen runs on the same route as the Palace on Wheels, the tourist train launched in 1982, and in 1999 was awarded a National Tourism Award.

164 year old EIR-21, World’s Oldest Working Steam Locomotive is still continues to amuse /wonder Rail and Steam enthusiasts, Senior Citizens and Children alike! The Heritage Special run was from Egmore to Kodambakkam today ie. 15th Aug 2019 in Chennai.

The name ‘EIR 21 Express’ was given to the loco by its creators, Kitson, Thompson & Hewitson of England, who built it in 1855.
