The Somnath temple is a marvelous temple with a great history located in Prabhas Patan near Saurashtra on the western coast of the Gujarat state , is believed to be the first among the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva.
It’s hard to describe in words the kind of happiness you would get in visiting it.
It is an important pilgrimage and tourist place of Gujarat state. You can spend the hours near the temple shore and nothing can be more rejuvenating. The temple is reconstructed several times in the past after repeated destruction by several Muslim invaders and rulers as well as the Portuguese, the present temple was reconstructed in May 1951.

Ancient Indian traditions maintain a close relationship of Somnath with release of Chandra (Moon God) from the curse of his father-in-law Daksha Prajapati. The Moon God is said to have been relieved from the curse of Prajapati Daksha by the blessings of Lord Somnath. In the Shiva Purana and Nandi Upapurana, it’s mentioned that `Shiva will always present everywhere but specially in twelve forms and twelve places as the Dwadasha Jyotirlingas`. Somnath is one of these 12 jyotirlinga places. This is believed to be the first among the twelve holy Shiva Jyotirlings.
There is an aura of absolute divinity in the temple which cannot be put in words.
The temple has been reconstructed more than seventeen times. This temple of extraordinarily beautiful and well maintained.
