About Raj Bhavan:
The Karnataka Raj Bhavan, formerly known during British rule in India as the Bangalore Residency, the Mysore State Residency, or, simply, the Residency, is the official residence of the Governor of Karnataka. It is located in the capital city of Bengaluru, Karnataka State. It is located next to Vidhana Soudha, situated at the highest point in Bengaluru, High Grounds (3031 feet above sea level).
Sir Mark Cubbon, who was the Commissioner of Mysore territories of the British from year1834 to 1861, bought this property through grants and built this bungalow with outhouse and stables during the period
1840-1842 from his personal funds, according to his taste and requirement.
The door of Raj Bhavan opened for a visit to the general public. It is expected that the visit of Raj Bhavan will have a pleasant, interesting and memorable experience.
Raj Bhavan will open to the public from 17th August, 2019 to 31
st August 2019 ( Need to book online and only if the visit is confirmed).
Facts about Raj Bhavan :
Before it was purchased, the Commissioner was paying a monthly rent of 200 rupees to Major Gray for the building. Had not Bowring purchased it for the Government then, the bungalow would have been private property today!
Aga Ali Askar made an offer of Rs. 28,000 to buy the Raj Bhavan building when it was put up for sale in the early 1860s!
The road on the southern side of the old Residency building continues to be known as ‘Residency Road‘ even today!
Raj Bhavan Entry to Public:
The Karnataka Raj Bhavan at Bengaluru will be open to the visitors from 17th Aug 2019 to 31 st Aug 2019 including the public holidays between 15.30 hrs to 19.00 hrs (3.30 p.m to 7.00 p.m).
The last entry to Raj Bhavan shall be @ 19.00 hrs (7.00 p.m).
The Visitors are expected to leave the premises latest by 19.30 hrs (7.30 p.m) in all circumstances.
Also, the entry will be based on a first come first, serve basis for the respective day.
